THE GARDEN
The Garden
Les Vites sits in a 5 acre garden, fenced off from surrounding farmland and neighbours. Once within the wrought iron gates you are in a private world.
The garden, long abandoned is being slowly tamed. There are still wild areas....No pesticides are used so wild life particularly birds are abundant. Swifts, damsel flies and toads are some of the inhabitants that enchant both young and old.
Every year something is added and planting evolves.
There is a productive orchard with cherries, apples,
walnuts, figs, quince, cobnuts and several kinds of plum.
Very satisfying treats for the thrifty cook.

Prunes d'Ente
September-October Walnuts, Figs, Apples ,

By late September, the white sauvignon and semillon grapes are being harvested and Bourru - new wine - is available for a limited period from the local cave. This sweet, fermenting grape juice does not travel well and is only ever found in wine growing regions.
